Lady Franklin’s Scrubber
Lady Franklin’s Scrubber is a humorous homage to the unconventional spirit of Lady Jane Franklin - wife of John Franklin (Governor of Tasmania from 1837-1842). Lady Jane Franklin was renowned for her inquisitiveness, her love of learning, adventure and exploration. Made from Tasmanian Huon Pine and pearls the necklace is a cheeky piece that imagines Lady Franklin conducting daily tasks such as scrubbing her boots and attire whilst clinging to notions of femininity unsuited to her geographical surroundings in the Tasmanian environment. Lady Franklin’s Scrubber ponders the role of women and their conditions encountered throughout the process of colonisation.
